I’ve always loved proposal stories…I think it’s partially because I’m really sentimental and a hopeless romantic at heart. But also because I think the story of how a couple got engaged is incredibly telling about them and who they are as a couple! From the big, extravagant proposals that are caught on film and involve some sort of musical number with all of the couples friends watching, to the most intimate, private proposal where a couple went for a walk on their first date…I love them all! So for that reason one of the things I like to ask a couple when I first meet them is how they got engaged…it’s also a question in my initial contact questionnaire so usually I’ll have already read a shortened version of the story, but there’s just something special about hearing a couple tell it together. The groom may be a bit hesitant at first, but I think it’s so much fun to hear a couple tag team when telling the story…and even when proposals don’t quite go as planned, they still make an amazing memory…
So when I first chatted with Emily and Alan, I got to hear the whole story about how he had an incredible plan to surprise Emily and propose to her at the Eiffel Tower in Paris when they were on a trip to Europe together…Emily had studied in France for a summer during college and her mom’s side of the family has some french heritage, so it is a special place to her! The two of them were actually visiting London, but took the train to Paris for a few days so that she could show Alan the city since he had never been. He decided this would be the perfect opportunity to propose and started forming his plan…well after a lot of rain changed the initial plan to propose at the Eiffel Tower, Alan ended up asking Emily in the middle of their rainy walk back to their hotel next to the river…and really could that be more romantic?
I love that they incorporated the Parisian theme into their wedding decor. Their wedding day at the Boathouse at Rockett’s Landing could not have been more beautiful! I hope that you enjoy my favorites from their special day! Congratulations again, Alan and Emily!
