When Rachel left the U.S. for the University of St. Andrews in Scotland to earn her Master’s degree, she never imagined that her very first week there she’d meet the man that she would later marry. James noticed her right away when she walked into his church the week that he happened to be on welcome team and he made a mental note that he needed to talk to her later. James was also a student at the University, but was born and raised in Scotland so he introduced her to everything that their beautiful country has to offer from the picturesque little seaside town of St. Andrews to the beautiful Scottish countryside….and somewhere along the way they fell for each other. I wish you could meet them, because they are absolutely perfect for one another. She’s an incredibly intelligent, caring, and obviously beautiful American girl, and he’s a witty, well-spoken Scotsman who can command a room and make anyone laugh. I’m so excited for them and their future together!
They held their wedding in St. Andrews where it all began and it’s easily one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. It’s a tiny coastal community with so much charm packed into it’s cobblestone streets and old stone buildings. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect place to have a wedding! It was planned to perfection and every detail was infused with love. It was the epitome of rustic elegance….from the beautiful lavender color palette to the millions of twinkling lights in the old stone barn, everything was beautiful! I loved all of the Scottish traditions that were weaved into their day including being piped into their reception by a bag piper and the traditional attire…even the father of the bride wore a kilt! But my favorite tradition was the Ceilidh Band and dancing at the reception. I’ve never been to a more lively or fun celebration! I especially loved that even with all of the fun planned, the focus was still on the love that these two share and their new marriage…even a 90% chance of rain all day couldn’t ruin their excitement or steal their joy! As James and Rachel twirled and danced with all of their family and friends, I couldn’t help but feel so grateful to be there capturing such a special day. That is perhaps my favorite part about photographing a destination wedding…the way Rachel and James and their families welcomed us in and included us in all of the joy surrounding the celebrations was an incredible honor. Scotland is the most magical place and I already can’t wait to go back! I think you’ll see why as you look through my favorites from their beautiful day…
A huge thanks to my dear friend Jill for being my second shooter! And congratulations again, Rachel and James!
