Mountain Top Moments and a Little Colonial House

I woke up this morning and it still didn’t feel real…but today I want to share another reason why I am so excited to have a blog!….Ryan and I have some BIG news!…we are officially HOMEOWNERS! YAY!!! We bought a little colonial house in the near west end of Richmond that is just perfect for us!

It’s old and quaint and has GLASS DOOR KNOBS!..like the ones you can find in Anthropologie only theyre actually old…It was built in the 1940’s and is surrounded by huge, pretty trees. It has really tiny closets, which is bad news for a girl like me, but I promise the house makes up for it in charm! It’s within walking distance to cute richmond-y cafes, my favorite bakery, and STARBUCKS! It also has this lion front door knocker, which makes me feel a little like we’ve been chosen to be in the Gryffindor House in Harry Potter (my childhood dream).

I’m so excited to move in and make it our own! I’m addicted to home makeover blogs like Young House Love, and can’t wait to share some of our own home makeovers!…

Is this real life?!?! Honestly, I still can’t believe it! We are so overwhelmed and soo thankful for the mountaintop moments in life…those moments where your overwhelmed with excitement and just want to hug every person you see…where you can look back at the path you’ve traveled and see reason and purpose…moments like this are such a reminder to me of God’s grace and how he gets us through hard times…

When I was sixteen years old, my dad died from stomach cancer…He left me an education fund for college, and since I graduated in three years I had some leftover which we decided would be wise to invest in a house…My dad was an amazing person and I miss him so much every day, but I know he would be so excited for us and I hope he would be proud! He came to the U.S. from Germany when he was in his 20’s to start his own business in America…He always dreamed big and he taught me to embrace life and love people well, because you never know when your last breath will be.

I’m so thankful that God can take the most horrible and heartbreaking situations in our lives and turn them into something beautiful.

I feel so blessed and sooo excited!! And I’m really thankful that I have an extremely intelligent husband who did most of the hard work involved in buying a home. Here he is giving me a thumbs up sign! He’s the best. I think he’s most excited about having a patio in the backyard so he can get a grill.

I CANT WAIT to be finished painting so that we can move in!!!!! I’m so excited to have cookouts, be able to host our church small group, and to put a pretty flower box in the top right window! Here it is from the front:

Clearly, my husband and I need to move to Richmond, because all the houses up here are cookie cutter molds and WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. I love your new little house!! When are you moving in? And too true- that door knocker is the best feature in the entire establishment. Love it!

I love your house!!! I love everything about it, from the bright front door, your cute little soon to be office, and your amazing backyard!! I am so happy for you! I think the thing I like best about this house is that in some way your dad was able to be involved. I’m sure he is so proud of you because you are such a great person and you are doing so well in life:) Love you girl!!
