Hans and Emily

We used to come here every summer with my family…it’s an idyllic place in the middle of no-where North Dakota, 30 minutes from the closest town (population 300) There’s no internet or phone access, which lends to the magic of life in a place where you can just be…there’s no temptation to constantly check your phone and no busyness. Just gorgeous mountain views and a peaceful feeling that only comes when you slow down. It’s the area where my grandparents grew up. It’s where they met and fell in love…and it’s where they bought this beautiful ranch together 40 years ago…so it was the perfect place to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary! Our whole family came to spend time together and I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic…

One evening while we were hanging out and exploring the property, I suggested to my brother that we should take some photos one night and he agreed! Getting to shoot just for fun gets me feeling so inspired…especially in a new place where I’ve never photographed anyone before…and these are some of my favorite photos ever! Possibly partially just because I love my brother and his girl (and I don’t get to see him very much because he lives in Seattle), but also because this place is MAGIC…literally we were walking around and everywhere you look was a great spot for a portrait! I love how these really highlight the gorgeous property too…

I’m so excited to share my favorites with you today and so thankful for this time I got to spend with my family!
